Simple Direct Funerals

Funeral Costs

Low-Cost Funerals

Do you want to reduce funeral expenses?

Funerals can be very expensive.
However,
SDF leads the way with lower funeral costs that cover all services and support you may need in Nelson and Tasman.

Many families find they appreciate most about SDF isn’t just the lower costs, but the way we work with families.  Less stress and pressure.

I highly recommend Owen and SD Funerals! I knew the moment I spoke with him on the phone about my mother's cremation that he would make the process comfortable as he was so friendly and calming. And I was right! Owen made it all too easy, he took care of all the details and we could not be more grateful for that. It was nice having someone so personable, and a local to Nelson, so we felt truly at home with him. The other funeral homes I spoke to made me feel like 'business'. Thank you so much Owen, we are forever grateful for how easy you made this for us.

Affordability with Service

This pricing includes the highest level of personal service and support, making a funeral with SDF much less stressful than alternatives.

Affordable with Dignity

A simple funeral is still significant and deserves respect. Often, a simple private funeral can be very meaningful for families.

We will never pressure you to spend more or add additional hidden costs.

In fact – we help families save expense and often suggest other ways to honour and remember the person.  We actually prefer money went to the family rather than the funeral home.

If finance is a concern, please talk to us.  We have options and can also help you with the WINZ grant application.  Do not let the cost of saying goodbye add to your grief.

Compassionate Airfares

Air New Zealand offers compassionate fares for unexpected deaths.  It is definitely worth looking into if you want to lessen costs if you are flying in.

Pre Planning Funerals

Pre-planning funerals is an option to consider. I understand it can seem quite daunting, as knowing where to begin may not be straightforward.

I often receive calls from individuals who are very confused about the funeral process and what steps they need to take. After a few minutes of conversation, they typically gain a clearer understanding. Many express relief, noting how much more at ease they feel once they realize it isn’t as overwhelming as they initially thought.

It can be easy to get lost in the details, so our approach is much more straightforward and provides families with everything they need to know.

The pre-planning may be for an imminent funeral in the near future or for a situation they hope won’t arise for some time. Regardless of the circumstances, having some insight is incredibly helpful.

Conclusion
Some people LOVE planning – be it weddings, birthdays, holidays, etc.  So it would be understandable that planning a funeral would be a natural step.  Then there is the other side – no planning or anything.

So do what works best for you.  Do your homework and don’t be talked into anything you aren’t happy with.

Pre Paying Funerals

I have been asked about pre-paying for funerals. I do not provide this service, but I understand why people would appreciate the assurance it can offer. I suggest that if someone wishes to set aside money, they simply create a new bank account and deposit funds into it.

One real advantage of this approach is that it gives families complete control over their finances, and if they decide to go with another funeral company, there are no hassles at all.

While this is not the same as funeral insurance, which I would recommend avoiding, it is worthwhile to research all options for pre-payment.

Sometimes people have encountered unpleasant surprises when their pre-paid funeral ended up costing more than expected, or the type of funeral was not what they anticipated.

With SDF, you know exactly what to expect and how much it will cost.
